When Joyce took her husband Elmer to visit The Rose Garden Home, she was concerned that he would be angry. As they toured the building, Joyce noticed that Elmer was very interested in the residents and the activities that they were doing. He seemed relaxed as long as she was close by. Joyce felt reassured that Elmer could make friends here.

About Us
Laurie White, M.S.W., and Beth Spencer, M.A., L.M.S.W., have both worked with family caregivers in a variety of settings, including support groups, counseling, and residential care settings. Together, they owned a business in Ann Arbor, Michigan - Caregiver Connection, through which they offered counseling and care management services to older adults and training programs to family and professional caregivers. Laurie and Beth have conducted dementia training programs around the country and also are two of the co-authors of Understanding Difficult Behaviors.

Laurie White
Laurie is a consultant and lecturer based in Santa Rosa, California. As owner of Dementia Care Consulting, Laurie provides counseling and care
management services to families.

She also consults with residential care homes on developing and expanding programs for families and direct care staff. Laurie has been affiliated with the Alzheimer’s Association, both in Michigan and California, for nearly 25 years, most recently as Regional Director for the North Bay Area of the  lzheimer’s Association of Northern California.

Laurie lives in Santa Rosa, California.

Beth Spencer
As of this printing Beth is the Director of the Silver Club, a dementia adult day program associated with the University of Michigan’s Turner Geriatric Clinic.

Prior to holding this position, Beth was Assistant  Professor of Gerontology at Madonna University in Michigan, where she developed and coordinated an
undergraduate certificate in dementia care. Beth is also co-author of Developing Meaningful Connections with People with Dementia: A Training Manual, that has been used as an in-service guide
throughout Michigan.

Beth lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
